Does not need to be dedicated, but per instructions does need to plug directly into the outlet and requires 115/120-volt AC, 60 Hz grounded outlet with 15-amp circuit breaker. It has current interrupter device on the end of the power cord (like a hair blow dryer) which would likely prevent an overload situation. Max load for the unit is just under 700 watts.
