Quick to Cool and Great Smart Features
|Posted .While I am sure there are other A/C window units that offer some smart functionality, this is the first one I have ever used, or owned. Installation is like other window unit systems and should be relatively simple if you have ever had any experience installing one. Just make sure you have a compatible window to install it, or you will find the task a bit more involved. In my case I opted to add a Window unit to a bedroom that does not seem to get the best cooling from my forced air system, and this one fit perfectly. The unit was packaged well, where you'll find a few pads for insulation, a top plate that screws into the top of the unit to hold it against the window, some side skirts that extend to the desired/needed space to cover the sides (no cutting needed), a remote control, and the manuals/warranty information. I will say this included everything I needed to install this successfully, without any further trips to a hardware store, and the instructions were easy to follow. Overall, I would say the installation took me about 45 minutes from start to finish (I am not an expert)! The A/C unit front panel removes easily, to gain access to the filter (which is reusable and already installed), and you will see a digital display. The display provides some basic info, like the temperature, and the selected mode/speed. There is also an indication light for the filter, sleep mode, and if the Wi-Fi is enabled. I will say that if you are not wanting to utilize the Smart Control, it is not required to operate the unit; however, you would be missing out on the app experience and features without it. The included remote will toggle the basic settings without issue, and I found that the control was not inhibited by position inside the room I used it in (a ~300 sq. ft room). The first thing you will notice is just how cold the air blows out of the unit. I was surprised that it did not take long for it to get up to temperature, and that it had no issue blowing out air to cool the entire room in about 30 to 40 minutes. The temperature in the room, prior to running, was 78 degrees and it easily got it down to 73 in about 10 minutes. Within the hour, the entire room was at the set temperature of 71 degrees. At night, I cranked it down to 68 and it kept that temperature all night long, only running a handful of cycles overnight to maintain. You will notice that the vents are manually controlled, so no automatic vent movement. Simply place them in the appropriate position for your use. App experience was surprisingly great, and the setup of the app was easy to follow. I did not experience any issues "pairing" the unit and connecting it to Wi-Fi. If you are on iOS (can’t speak for Android) and running the newest OS, it will use the AirPort utility to select and upload your Wi-Fi Settings to the unit. That means it just pulls the Wi-Fi password from your phone directly, with no need to type it in. Keep in mind, that prior to installation of the AC unit, I would take a picture of the side of the right side of the unit where the GE Wi-Fi Password is. You will need that password to complete the Wi-Fi setup and is only used to upload the settings. If you are not sure what app to install, simply scan the QR code on the included card that it is taped to the unit during unpacking. This will take you straight to the “Comfort – GE Appliances” in the App Store. Account setup was easy, simply enter your email and desired password, and follow the prompts to enter your registration info and validate your email. Otherwise, sign in if you are using another GE Smart Appliance (C by GE account info is not supported). Logging in to the app was quick, and it immediately displayed the status of the AC unit and allowed setting modes. You can set the speed of the fan (low – medium - high), and the modes of Cool, Fan, or Energy Savings. I did find with Energy Savings that the unit would cycle on and off more repeatedly versus just keeping it on “Cool.” The app also displays how much power is being used, which is really a neat feature for those trying to monitor power usage. The app will require location to enable the “away” feature, which is located in the “Routines” menu. You can also set a schedule for each day of the week and find the vacation or sleep modes. I am also happy to report that this supports IFTTT integration for recipes. Simply find the “GE Appliances Window AC” in IFTTT’s website and sign in to authorize its use. You will also find that it supports Apple’s Home features, and the setup code is on the same label as the Wi-Fi information. Also, be sure to update your location in the app, so you get weather information relevant to your home location. Overall, I am happy with this window unit and the features. The easy use of the app, Apple Home and the IFTTT integration make this a great addition to any Smart Home. The unit gets to temperature relatively quickly in appropriately sized rooms, and the remote is great for those that don’t want to reach for their phones and use the app. GE really knocked it out of the park with this Smart Home Window A/C Unit.

Happy with my purchase
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Honestly when I first set up the AC I right away wanted to return it BUT glad I didn’t. At first i was upset that the coolest it went was 64 degrees not 60 but I see now that it’s no big deal at all. When I first turned it on it took about 20 minutes to actually get it blowing very cold air now it’s very fast to cool when I turn it on. I alone installed it while my husband was at work, took me maybe 30 start to finish that’s with taking it out the box and setting it up. I did at first think it wasn’t as quite as my old AC but now that it’s been installed and running I don’t mind the sound at all I hardly notice it now. And the front panel with the buttons and temp number do light up but turn off after a couple minutes so it’s hard to know if it’s on or off when I have it on energy saving mode and it turn on and off automatically. But then again I don’t mind cause it’s in my room as it’s a light I don’t have to worry about because I do enjoy pitch black room at night so I’m completely fine with it. The AC does cool down my room in minutes! I enjoy that and I really like being able to turn it on and off using the app on my phone I’ve already turned it on while I was out running errands so when I got home my room was already nice and cool. So yes I did judge to soon but now I am happy with my purchase and it definitely gets the job done. I just hope it last me longer than a year but I will be buying warranty for it just in case because this is my first time buying GE AC. Another note my windows are horizontal and it fits and works fine I did just have to purchase the clear acrylic sheet to feel the space on my window.

Great air conditioner
||Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.originally did not think about Best Buy for air conditioner. Could not find one at the big hardware stores so I checked here, not only did they have what I needed but it was a great price. This is exactly what I needed for my new building I am using as on office. I could have probably got away with the 6000BTU unit but this building is a lofted barn style and has high ceilings so I really wanted the 8000. The install was easy with a great tutorial video on the website. The machine is much more quiet than I was expecting which is awesome. It works great, and does not need to run constantly even on the hottest days. Very happy with this purchase. Even comes with a remote!

Works with HomeKit
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Working so far. Not too many HomeKit window air conditioner options out there. Works in HomeKit or the SmartHQ app but I can’t get it to work in both at the same time for some reason. Like that the app provides real time electricity usage and filter condition status.

Easy to use and install smart air conditioner
|Posted .The GE Smart Window air conditioner “upgrades” the traditional run-of-the-mill appliance with a flair of intelligence by changing the way we interact and control it. The core air conditioner is a robust, minimalist design that I hope still adheres to the reliability record of GE appliances. Installation was easy and straight-forward, and all the mounting accessories are already provided in the box. You the the traditional accordion-like side curtains to cover the sides, and the window drops down on the mounting rail. There’s some foam seals provided for the windows edges/sides. The only issue I faced is that due to the height on my bottom window rail, I couldn’t use the side brackets provided to secure the unit to my window - this was a not a very major issue as my window opens out to my balcony so there’s not a big chance of the air conditioner falling down. I just measured the mounting holes and got some new L-brackets from the local hardware store, and the issue went away. I’m guessing most of the windows won’t have this issue, but my advice is read the installation manual and measure all the stuff before you start installing. The air conditioner itself has the generic functionality - 3 fan speeds with auto function, there’s an eco mode for reduced power consumption etc - in essence just regular stuff. What sets the smart a/c apart is that besides the included remote controller, there are two more ways you can control the unit. There’s the GE Appliances ‘Comfort’ smartphone app, and there’s the integration with voice assistants (Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa). Using the smartphone app, you can hook up the air conditioner with your WiFi and then use the app itself to control the unit, as well as schedule it using some routines. The setting up is not very difficult - the app (I only have an Android smartphone so don’t know about iOS app) guides you all the way, but you need the password of the unit so be sure to take a picture of the information placard located at the side of the unit, as sometimes they may become obscured by the side curtains. The app itself is not the most polished/sleek looking one - it has more of a utilitarian and industrial looking design, and though it gets the job done, the UI is not very pleasant from a design and aesthetic point of view. I faced some difficulty in adding the device to my Google Home assistant. There’s some absence of clear information/directions in the provided booklets and even in the GE website, and I had to get support for using this feature. But in essence the process is easy as pie - you just need to add the device though the GE ‘Smart HQ’ system, the Google Home discovers your air conditioner, and voila you can now control it using voice commands like: ‘Turn on the air conditioner’, ‘set temperature to xyz’, etc. If you are used to Google Home commands for smart appliances it won’t be a surprise how easy it is. I saw that Amazon Alexa is also supported, but I haven’t used that platform for this particular a/c. Now for the actual function of the product - cooling. The unit is a 8000 BTU unit that’s rated to cover a 350 square-feet room, and from what I have seen it was adequately cooling as desired. Given that I have yet to see very hot days in the ever cloudy Pacific NorthWest where I’m located, on a couple of rare sunny warm days, it was able to cool the almost 350+ sq ft. living room with relative ease. All in all, I’m extremely satisfied with the product. My only gripes is that I had to go through some additional hoops to: i. get it secured due to the small bracket provided, ii. to get it hooked up to my Google Assistant, and iii. I wish the Android smartphone app was more polished. Other than that I think this is a great product that does it’s job well, and the smart control features are really helpful once set up.

No more looking for the remote or getting up
|Posted .First off I'm a tech person I love being able to control everything from my phone or by one remote. With this AC being controllable by WiFi there's no more searching for the remote or getting up to change the temperature. Another cool thing .. no pun intended lol .. about this AC is that when you're away for the day at work or vacation for whatever reason, you don't have to run the AC the entire time to have it cool once you return home. You can simply hop on your phone 15-20 more before you get home and by the time you arrive that room will be cool as a cucumber! Another feature I like about this AC is the actual words light up so you can see what mode, speed, and all is currently selected unlike most with the words are solid and there's just a illuminated mark beside the word making it hard to see at night. Another thing that sets this apart from any other AC I've purchased is all of the foam and inserts included to make sure your window and seal is air tight, no bugs coming in there! Makes this super easy to setup. The sound isn't too bad but in a small room if you have this on the highest setting it really kicks up a bit. It drops the temperature quickly though I have it in a larger than suggested and it still cooled it with ease. The app was easy to use and the feature was a selling point for me. Would highly recommend this to others

Q: QuestionThe Specs read "Minimum window opening, width: 24.5 inches. Elsewhere it says Product width is 18-5/8 inches. My window opening is 21 inches. I'm confused by the 2 different dimensions in the specs. Will the unit fit in my window?
Asked by Jeep.
- A:Answer Hi Jeep - Thanks for considering GE! Model AHP08LZ! We are sorry to hear of the confusion and glad to help. With accordion side panels installed, this model fits windows 24 1/2" - 36" wide, minimum height 13-3/8". The air conditioner can be installed without the accordion side panels if needed to fit in a 21" wide window. We suggest viewing page 10 of the Installation Guide at the following link: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000462.pdf - We hope this is helpful. Q: QuestionDoes this unit work with Apple HomeKit?
Asked by Paisano.
- A:Answer Hello, thank you for your question. Yes, this air conditioner is compatible with Apple HomeKit. To use the capability of the Apple Home app, it must be on your WiFi network to access and control the accessory unless your house has an Apple TV (4th generation or later) with tvOS 10 or later on the same Apple ID as the Apple Home app. You can then control the air conditioner from either your phone, Siri, or the Apple TV. Q: QuestionWhat is the lowest temperature the unit can be set to?
Asked by Nancy.
- A:Answer The lowest is 64. I was surprised I didn’t know not all AC units go down to 60 but I don’t mind at all this AC cools very fast and is very cold at 70 I have not yet needed to make it go any colder. But I will definitely be putting it to work this summer I live in California and it get hot here. But I honestly feel it will do great during the hot summer days to come.

Q: QuestionHi, what is the lowest external temperature in which I can safely turn this AC on without damaging it? If I go technically lower, how long can I turn it on before I start to damage it?
Asked by COCKAMAMIE.
- A:Answer Hello, Thanks for reaching out! Great question. On page 6 of the owner's manual, it instructs that the unit should not be turned on if the temperature outside is 32 or below. Therefore, you shouldn't attempt any cycle when it is freezing. Additionally, there is limited performance when the outside temperature is below 70. The lower the temperature, the less effective the unit will be. This is because the unit may either freeze up and need to defrost or cycle on and off more often as it constantly reaches the lowest set temperature. We hope this helps! Thanks. -HannahGEA
