Hi Gitty - Thanks for considering our GE Model GTW335ASNWW! Current top-load washers with a Lid Lock feature will lock while the washer is filling and spinning. On these models, it is critical that the lid stays down while it is filling if you are using Precise Fill (or Auto Fill) rather than selecting a specific load size. Precise Fill senses the load and fills appropriately. The washer will not fill while the lid is up when using Precise Fill. The washer will fill when you manually select a specific load size: Low; Medium; High; Max. This is because the washer does not use load sensing to fill for a set load size.
