    • Answer Hi kc - High-efficiency detergent is required for this washer. Use the detergent manufacturer’s recommended amount. Place detergent pods in the bottom of the wash basket before adding clothes. HE detergents are specially formulated for high efficiency washers to provide excellent whitening, stain removal and clothes care and is recommended for use in all our washers. A low-sudsing formula allows you to use a full scoop of detergent to get your clothes clean without creating suds you don't need.     • Answer Hi Jody - Yes, GFW450SPMDG is an HE washer. Top-loading and front-loading GE Appliance washers with the HE label are defined as washers that use low-water levels in wash and rinse cycles. Unlike the top loader, the front loader's wash basket is set horizontally, and uses gravity to pull water through clothes. And because the basket never has to fill completely with water you end up using only a third of the water a top loader uses, but your clothes get just as clean. Pair with GE® 7.5 cu. ft.
