• I put detergent at bottom and the top in between clothing and it work .

• The best way to add these things is to use pods. I found tide pods work the best in this washer. They make pods that have detergent, fabric softner, oxi clean etc... available. But use any type of pod you choose. For extra freshness you can add the crystals or beads like downy and etc.. My son is a highschool athlete. His gym clothes are really smelly. Since I have gotten this washer, I have not needed to rewash or pretreat his clothes.
