Hi there - Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing your feedback! Ranges have an oven vent to help vent hot air and steam while cooking in the oven. On gas ranges, the oven vents out of the center of the backsplash area, underneath the control panel. This will cause that area of your cooktop to feel very warm, however, it shouldn't cause the knobs to be so hot you're not able to touch them. If you still feel there is an issue, we recommend reaching out to GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737. We hope this helps. Thanks for checking with us! - Sharon@GEA
