I changed the sensi-temp coils out for the older ones and it works great!! I tried it with just one 8" coil and now I will replace them all!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the new "sense-temp" coils can be swapped out for older coils. Here's the thing: the new tech is allegedly a safety feature. But it makes no literal sense whatsoever. For instance: if a pan is not placed on a coil that is turned to high the coil gets red hot. Not only will oil ignite but anything else that comes into contact (a kitchen towel or your sleeve) will easily catch fire. It's a thinly veiled ruse to force consumers into buying more expensive and less easy to fix stovetops. I work in this industry and can testify that these new coils cause incredible anxiety and stress on the unwitting customers who think they're getting a product they're familiar with, but are really getting something designed to frustrate them. They'll tell me tails of trying to boil water, thinking they've solved the riddle (turning the burner only to med-high WON'T work, not consistently) but ultimately giving up and just buying a new unit that costs $25--$500 more.Change out the coils, buy a couple back ups (they'll be phasing them out) and enjoy your stove for another 20 plus years.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, I just bought a JB258RMSS and replaced the burners with WB30M1 and WB30M2. Works great - doesn't have to be genuine GE part. You can get them from Amazon. If you choose not to replace just never put the burner on high and everything will be fine. I was able to boil water consistently on "8". I only replaced the burners because my lighter pans wobbled on the burners due to the middle button sticking up.

Please try again later.All I know is that can't get a stove with standard coil burners anymore and now I have spend several hundred dollars for a separate and special type of portable electric appliance because this sensi-temp tech doesn't even allow you to cook properly much less be able to pressure can foods safely! NOT HAPPY!

Although I did not buy my range from Best Buy, it is important for people to know that this new "safety feature" is a nightmare for people that just want to cook their food with a reliable heating element!

Had to hunt down elements that physically set up taller than normal elements so that heat can vent. And while pressure canning it helps keep the wiring from melting if you pull the unused elements out and direct a small fan in there.

Kept cooling off when I needed to have something really hot or boiling. I called them ‘nanny burners’. I switched them out with older coils and now the stove runs like I like it to.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The posi-temp burners are CRAP. I've canned for 50 years and have NEVER had the frustration with the process like I do with these stupid burners. They take 1/2 hour to get up to boiling, then throttle back several times (in a 10 minute can time!!) Proof once again that the "experts" are useless people.
