Self cleaning is via super heating the oven. It takes about 3.5 hours to complete. If you have a lot of crud built up from spills inside the oven, you will want to have a window open when you do the self cleaning.

During the cleaning cycle the oven is heated to about 880 degrees Fahrenheit (471° C.). At this temperature, food soils inside the oven decompose, leaving behind a small amount of ash. The clean time can be changed to any time between 3:00 and 5:00 hours.
