You can wash and reuse, it's actually recommended after x amount of hours (220?) of run time.

The air filter should be checked and cleaned every 250 hours of operation. To clean it, we recommend you use warm, soapy water and let it dry completely before putting it back in the unit. We do not, however, recommend you wash it in a dishwasher. If you would like to read more about this, we suggest checking out page 8 of the owner's manual on our website.
