The tank fills fast. I hooked up hose to drain continuous. I am gone days at at time. Tank fills in less than 24 hrs. No way I would consider using the tank. You are correct. The rating can be misleading. They could claim 50 pints per year assuming the user empties tank every 3 months. But in the lab they don't use the tank.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you have empty it often. I did not realize this when I bought it. Tank is very easy to empty. I like that. We are going to attach a hose so the water goes directly to the drain. It is extremely quiet!

If you choose to use a drain hose, then there will be no need to empty the tank. If you opt not to use the drain hose, then the tank will need to be emptied when it indicates that the tank is full. If you plan on not using a drain hose it will need emptied during the day or it will shut off. I have mine hooked to a small garden hose and running to a basement drain and it works great.
