No it does have a defrost cycle

However, as outdoor temperatures approach the lower end of that range, there is an increased risk that the outdoor coil may begin to freeze. The optimal outdoor ambient temperature for maximum heating output is 47°F. For safety and performance, the unit will automatically shut off at 5°F.". In the event it does freeze up, it will stop heating until the outdoor coil is not frozen. -Vikki@GEAppliances
