  • QuestionHad it on for 2 hours and already half the coil was frozen over and the unit was barely giving off cold air

    Asked by Frozen.

    • Answer Good day, Oh no! We're so sorry to hear that your portable AC is not cooling properly and the coils are freezing. We understand how aggravating that must be. If your portable air conditioner is not cooling properly, first make sure it is sized properly to the room. Oversizing a unit will cause it to turn off too soon while undersizing a unit will prevent it from keeping the entire room cool enough. Clean the filter. We recommend that the filter be cleaned once a week if possible. Confirm there is ample space around the unit, and that there is nothing obstructing the air flow around the intake. Check your owner's manual for space requirements. Verify your unit is in Cool mode. Check your set temperature and make sure it is set at a cooler temperature than your room temperature. Make sure there is no obstruction in the exhaust hose and the hose is not kinked or overly bent. Do not exceed the recommended hose length of 5 feet. These tips can also help resolve the freezing coils. If you have determined that none of these tips will resolve your issue, then you may need to consider scheduling service. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-432-2737. Hope this helps! Mike@GEA

  • QuestionJust bought a brand new GE portable AC, 550 sqft. Model: APCD10JASGW1 Followed all instruction, but no cold air. We had it running for over an hour thinking maybe it needed to warm up or something. But still no cold air. Help please.

    Asked by Bjam.

    • Answer Hello Bjam, Thanks for contacting us! We're sorry to hear about your air conditioner not functioning properly. We'd be glad to help you with a few troubleshooting tips. We found that if a unit is not cooling, it could be that the room is very hot and humid. If this is the case, the unit may take longer than usual to cool the room. We also suggest making sure the appliance is on the correct setting. The mode should be "Cool", and the fan should be on "High". We also suggest making sure doors and windows are not opened, and there is nothing blocking the airflow. If these troubleshooting tips don't work, you may need someone to ensure it was installed correctly. We hope this information helps, and if there are anymore questions please contact us. Thank you for your time, and have a great day! -Sylvia@GEA

  • QuestionDo I need to add water? First time having this

    Asked by Portableac.

    • Answer Hello Portableac, Great question! We first want to thank you for your interest in GE Appliances. We'd be happy to help you with this portable air conditioner. We apologize for this information being difficult to find, and understand how frustrating it can be adjusting to a new appliance. We found that for this air conditioner, there is no need to add water. There is an internal water tank on this model that will fill with condensation, and will need to be emptied occasionally. Other than this procedure, we do not recommend the air conditioner being placed in any wet areas, nor do we suggest using liquid sprays to clean the unit. We have provided links below for more information on the water tank, and regular maintenance for this model air conditioner: (Page 7 and 8) https://files.bbystatic.com/1N8bHin0%2FZSA%2FLsdoYIGpg%3D%3D/B54C1184-DEC4-48A9-98BA-C23290D37094.pdf We hope this information is helpful. • QuestionWhen is cool mode, the unit only pushes out cold air 50% of the time. The rest of the time it appears to just be pushing out room temperature air. Is this normal? The room it's in isn't really cooling down on a hot day because it's not cold half the time.

    Asked by DJ123.

    • Answer Hi DJ123- Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your portable air conditioner Model APCA14YZBW. We are sorry to hear it is not cooling enough and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. This model is designed to cool rooms up to 550 sq. ft. Maintain a minimum 30” clearance around the air conditioner to not block airflow. Close the doors and windows to the room being cooled to prevent cooled air from escaping. For maximum cooling, press the MODE pad until the COOL indicator light is lit. Press the FAN pad to set HIGH fan speed then press + or - to set the desired temperature between 61°F and 89°F in 1°F increments. The temperature control is used to maintain the room temperature. The compressor will cycle on and off to keep the room at the set level of comfort. Set the temperature control at a lower number and the indoor air will become cooler. • QuestionDoes the unit have to be vented out a window?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi - Thanks for considering GE Model APCA14YZBW! Yes, the air conditioning process is basically moving warm humid air outside so the hoses are designed primarily to move heat and humidity from a room. These units are sold with a 5' exhaust vent hose with a 5” inch diameter. Operating the unit without an exhaust vent will not allow heat and humidity to be removed from the room. The unit will not function properly without an exhaust vent. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Sue
