“Should the drum move forward & backward? I bought dryer in March & it came w/issues right from the start. GE finally agreed to replace it. May 3rd I received the brand new replacement & 3 weeks later started making a whooshing sound from drum area”

No it should not. GE apparently sent you another defective dryer.

Hello- We appreciate you reaching out and sorry that you've had issues with your dryer. The dryer drum turns counter-clockwise during operation but it shouldn't turn freely.
