The griddle could be set on top of the grate, but I would recommend removing the grate to use the griddle (griddle will be more stable and closer to the flame).

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The griddle does NOT fit securely on top of the grate! It might slip off while cooking and cause a catastrophic accident. I definitely would NOT use the griddle without removing the grate first and placing the griddle in its spot. Hope this helps.
