“Does Carafe have to be heated prior to making coffee. In other words, do you have to put hot water in the carafe prior to making coffee, in order to hear the carafe? I found this is the case with stainless steel carafes.”

Putting hot water in the carafe would certainly help warm up the carafe making the coffee warmer, but I’d never bother.
