Thank you for asking your question. During use it will get warm to the touch as the side have louvers. For safety I would use oven mitts should you need to move it after use. We do not have actual exterior temperature as that would depend on temperature set and how long used. Place the oven on a level and stable surface where oven has at least 4" (10cm) of clearance on all sides of the unit, and at least 8" (20cm) of clear space above. Do not block side vents. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you're making French bread pizza it's not bad for under the counter. Or toasting or heating up a slice pizza. But for long duration cooking I move it out from under cabinets . Like any toaster or small oven it can get hot from extended use. But not absurdly hot. It has heavier walls than most and it does a great job. Don't have to heat a big oven and I can quickly warm up and brown a slice of leftover pizza and not have go limp by heating in a microwave. The only thing you have to watch is heating in convection mode . The difference between nicely browned and burnt is quick. A couple of uses and you get the hang of it. I really like it.
