“When the door on the microwave opens, does the hinge remain flush with the unit, or does it add extra width? I have a wall on the hinge side, so several units do not work in this space.”

Yes, the hinge remains flush with the unit. I've attached (2) pictures showing the unit door CLOSED and OPENED. I'd also like to add that the convection oven works like a charm and this model has a Steam Clean feature which helps with cleanup.

However, if the unit is installed next to a deep cabinet or wall on the hinge side (left side), you will need a 1/2" clearance on the hinge side to allow the door to open.
