Call GE again for repair ASAP if this is under warranty. This is NOT normal. I had the same problem went I purchased this microwave a few weeks ago. It would take 6 or 7 tries to open the microwave, and then it would work for a few hours, then it would stop working again. The repair was to replace the console on the right. where the button is located as well as the console face on the left. When I asked about this problem, the service technician said something was wrong with the plastic piece behind the button or the hinges themselves, ie. the plastic piece wasn't lifting the hinges correctly or the hinges wouldn't lift for the door to open. Mine, currently works smoothly, for now. Good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Smarche - Thanks for choosing GE and for reaching out to us regarding the issue with the door opening. We can certainly understand your concern. It is best to open the door by pressing the center of door latch release. When pressing in areas off center and further from center, the door latch is more difficult to operate. This is normal operation for the microwave. If this is not the case, please reach out to us at GEAppliances.com (Contact Us) - Keep in touch. We are always eager to help! Sue
