You will most likely need to purchase a new trim kit to match the new microwave. We replaced a GE microwave model that was only 4 years old and the new replacement (the GE model recommended to replace it) was not compatible with the trim kit. The metal brackets would not work with the new microwave. Good news, though. The new trim kit works well and is designed to be much more sturdy than the old one we replaced. We purchased the GE microwave PEB7227SLSS and the trim kit JX7230SLSS. They are compatible and a great option for replacement.
