“Do you have to turn off the water in the back of the refrigerator to change the filter? I currently have a Samsung and that is required. I have to hire someone to come in and move the frigerator out from the wall. This is a terrible design flaw.”

No. Twisting the filter out shuts off the water flow to the holes. You won't get more than a drop or two drip. That's why not using a filter (like for reverse osmosis systems which is already far more filtered) requires a plug to be installed to allow water flow at all. Having said that you should always have a quarter turn quick connect ball valve in your plastic water line from the wall to the fridge - and the line should be long enough to pull the fridge out to access it. I tape the excess (I have about 5ft of line) in a big loop to the back of the fridge with 3" packing tape to keep it away from the wheels. That way you can reach the valve if needed by just rolling the fridge out a foot or two which can be done with 2 people easily on a hard floor. It's on wheels unless someone screwed the feet down.
