There is setting for both. If you want to use just the microwave then it microwaves only. Same for the convection. It does not microwave and convect at the same time. Hope that clarifies it for you. The lower oven does the bake, convection bake, broil, clean, etc. and once again you have to select which setting. Just like any other oven. I love it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The microwave and convection settings/actions are separate. I do NOT recommend this oven. The microwave can only be set in 15 second intervals. so if your coffee takes 55 seconds, can't do that. It requires 6 actions to reheat a cup of coffee (my counter top one I had temporarily before this replacement took one action)...remember my "name" is cookless. It continues to sound like it is microwaving during an endless "cooling down" after the time is up and the table goes around also. If you miss the "ding" you do not know it is done. Not sure I am following direction on the convection settings as the directions are not too clear. In any case after 40 minutes on convection only a potato was still not done and it would have been in the regular oven. I have not seen an advantage in either the upper or lower oven with the Convection choice. Regular bake seems to take a long time to get to temperature. It seems either the engineers never talked to anyone in a kitchen or they were only talking to real cooks (unlike myself, who cooks maybe once a week and then reheats the rest of the week!) Too complicated. I wish I had purchased Samsung even if it is not American!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Hawk443- The upper oven has both Microwave and Convection Bake cooking modes. Also, the lower oven has Traditional Bake and Convection Bake cooking modes. Therefore, you can use the upper and lower ovens without Convection Bake mode. Keep in touch! Sue
