Hi there, Thanks so much for your question. This cooktop has surface indicator lights for each burner to let you know if it is on or not. There is also a surface element on light as well. This should not be used to tell if they are hot as the surface will still be hot, even if the element is off or cooling. You should use the surface indicator lights instead. Stay in touch! Mike@GEA
