The unit comes with instructions on how to clean, but there is a clean and a descale. When sanitizing, you basically do a clean with some bleach and then clean 3 more times with clear water to rinse. There is a touch sensitive button on the face to initiate cleaning. Hold that button to descale.

Please try again later.Multiple things to know: 1) it has a cleaning cycle 2) When you do the cleaning cycle, you need to make sure you have it by sink or drain (or bucket) so you can drain the cleaning water 3) If you have the side tank, that has to be disconnected as part of cleaning, which means you have to take the side tank out and then carefully disconnect the side tank base water line so you don't end up with water all over the counter. Not hard, just make sure you are focused on what you are doing. 4) There is *official* cleaning powder mix for this as well as 3rd party cleaners, and of course there is regular vinegar as well. This part of the cleaning is all about getting the calcium build-up out of it. Left uncleaned, you will eventually get some startling squeak / squeal sounds while it is making ice and possibly malfunctioning water detection float switch (gets stuck). So yes - clean it for this reason. 5) The other cleaning is to make sure you really are keeping it sanitary. Again, use cleaning cycle and follow the directions - use a little bit of bleach in solution to sanitize, then rinse. The latest units now remind you to sanitize and clean based on usage hours.
