Hi - We appreciate your interest in a new Profile over-the-range convection microwave. We recommend it be installed under a cabinet that is a minimum of 12" deep to ensure safe and reliable installation and operation. We are glad you checked with us. Kind regards - Vikki@GEAppliances

The mounting bolts, which go through the bottom "shelf" of the cabinet above microwave, are about 9 3/4" off of the inside of the back wall of upper cabinet. With me so far? If your upper cabinets are indeed only 10" off the wall, then the mounting bolts for the top of microwave will land pretty close to the front edge of your cabinet. As in 1/4" to 1/2" away from front edge of bottom shelf in the upper cabinet. Depending how close those mounting bolt holes actually end up to the edge, it could be problematic. Like the mounting bolts could blow out the thin side of the mounting hole and your microwave falls. If you have a solid wood bottom shelf piece, you could get away with 1/4" of wood between the hole and the front edge of shelf. However, if it is particle board with laminate, don't rely on it. Whether your shelf is wood or particle board, you could reinforce that front edge with, maybe, some 3/4" x 3/4" aluminum stock. Not sure of the exact name of the piece. Looks like an L with equal size legs. You could cap that front edge of the shelf and run your bolts thru the aluminum stock, shelf, and into top of microwave. Little paint and Bob's your uncle! Hope this made sense and helps.
