“I am confused as to why mounting under a 15" cabinet requires a "special bracket," but if the cabinet is 13" or less in depth it does not require the additional bracket, please explain.”

Hey there and thanks for this excellent question. Microwaves should be installed in a 12”-13” deep cabinet, but the Bump Out Kit is available if you have a cabinet deeper than that. The kit is needed to bump the microwave forward 3” so that it aligns properly. Please let us know if we can answer any additional questions. -Gina@GEA
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.My guess, and I emphasize guess, is that the microwave would probably be recessed slightly if mounted under a 15" upper (cabinet). It only sticks out a couple, maybe 3 inches on a 12" upper. The special bracket may be a spacer of sorts to bring the microwave out a bit. I really don't know but couldn't resist the urge to guess. Now I am gonna go Googlin!
