“Does the water from the side tank of the Opal 2 go into the main tank of the unit and then get filtered through this water filter? If not, is there a filter that works in the side tank?”

The water you put in the side tank still goes into the main reservoir and then through the ice maker’s filter (P4INKFILTR) before ice is made. There isn’t a separate filter just for the side tank.
