Hi Kathy- A pedestal is not needed with GE® RightHeight™ Design GFW490RPKDG. The RightHeight™ Design with a 7" built-in pedestal allows you easier access to your laundry without the added expense of buying separate pedestals for your washer and dryer. The added height puts your clothes within easy reach, plus you can use the top of the washer as a folding surface. The factory-installed pedestal is part of the design and cannot be removed for use without it.
