Hi Betty- Thanks for choosing our GE Unitized Spacemaker® Washer/Dryer GUD27ESSJWW! We suggest to view page 3 of the Installation Instructions at the following link for water inlet location: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=31-16728.pdf - The dryer is deeper in the rear than the washer. The overhang is 4" past the back panel of the washer, which means it sticks out past the vent, electrical, and plumbing connections. The dryer can sit up against a wall without adding any extra depth to the unit. This provides space for the connections in the rear. Other Than Alcove or Closet Installation: Minimum clearance to combustible surfaces and for air opening are: 0" clearance both sides and rear. Clearance must be given to provide adequate clearance for installation and service. If the unit will be installed in a closet, see page 11 of the Installation Instructions or clearance requirements. We hope this is helpful. Enjoy! SUEatGEA
