The input is via the charging port. You insert the phone into the headset and it is secured by clasps mounted to the headset face. The only wired connection you'll have will be headphones, as it isn't recommended to use Bluetooth due to heat/lag being a potential issue. The phone will mount in the opening seen in the attached photo

Because of the way the device slots into the Gear VR it wouldn't be capable of using the carmera at the same time. I hope that helped to answer your question. ^Viv
