A:AnswerYou can put only 3 shelves but it does lose some of its solid construction. I would recommend doubling on the top of bottom and making sure it's not top heavy. I put 2 at the top and have a large glass terrarium in the middle filled with sand and my beard dragon and have had 0 issues.

The metal pieces have a baked on power coat to prevent from corroding or rusting. The shelves are coated with black melamine but the corners are not waterproof. Not sure how you would water proof them.
