• Mine works just fine plugged into HDMi on an AV receiver. They say TV most likely because maybe not everyone has an AV receiver?

• This one is HDMI-only, but they make the "Chromecast Audio" which you can hook up to a receiver. It's the same price as this.

• You could certainly connect it into a receiver and then just cast to it. Should work without an issue.
