What's the small port on the device for? null

It has a total of two ports. One is for power (via USB) that plugs into your wall outlet. The other is an HDMI port that plugs directly into your TV.

The only one port on the device is the power input.

Well, for one thing, you can connect an optional wired Ethernet adapter to it.
