No your phone has to stay on
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. It does.. You can turn ur phone off or even walk away from the TV with your phone/tablet. The beauty about casting is that u are passing the data over. Hope this helps your question.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it'll continue to stream unless the device is hosting the content. But if you're watching Netflix and want to turn your phone off or walk away, it'll continue to play until the title finishes or Netflix decides to interrupt you by asking if you're still watching.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. Once you start casting you can turn off the phone and it will continue to work off the wifi. Works for just about every app I've tried. Pandora, Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Go. I've not tried music or videos off my phone but once it loads I'm sure it will continue to cast.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I never actually switched off the phone but I can tell you with certainty that you can do other stuff with your phone while the cast is on. Or even let the phone lie in sleep mode. Will try switching it off too. Btw, even with laptop or pc, when you cast, once the cast is on, you can pretty much do whatever you wish with the laptop as long as the tab with the cast is on somewhere in the background - this is a major advantage as it lets you multitask.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can't power the device down, however, you can put the phone on standby or turn the screen off.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Once you start casting, you can turn off the screen and put it to the side, use other apps, or turn it off completely. All the device does is send "instructions" to chromcast as to where to find the stream. Once it's initiated, it's good to go. That being said there aren't really any ways to control the pause, fast forward, etc without the device though.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can put your phone into sleep mode, however you cannot power down as that terminates the connection to the website you are casting from.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. Think of your phone as merely a controller for the Chromecast. The chromecast itself connects to the internet to stream the content independent of the phone. If the controller is disconnected, everything still plays.
