It just has to be a file type that Chromecast will recognize. See here: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media And there are decoder apps that you can change file types with to work around unsupported type issues. Works well casting movies. I use LocalCast app on my phone to do it.

Just plug the Chromecast into an HDMI port in the back of the TV and the power cord into a USB on the back of the TV(it comes with a wall adapter if you don't have a USB) and download the app. It works off the wifi to stream from your phone straight to your TV in HD
