• This is not the first version, the first gen was a simiar shape to a usb stick. Every single time that you turn this on, it will check over the internet if the firmware is at the latest and if not it will promt you to update.

• I believe the device will automatically download the new firmware. This is the latest HD version but NOT the 4k version which costs more.
