It is still a companion app, you will need to have a cable service to stream directly too it. I didn't actually see an nhl app on there that is supported though

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You would need an nhl subscription of some sort I assume. I use NFL total access and it works great. You can cast any video from your chrome browser to the Chromecast so if you can find nhl online anywhere you could cast it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you can find the live feed on line (and yes, there are many websites that do and you can find them easily, just make sure you have an adblocker and antivirus up to date), then yes, you can cast that feed from laptop to TV. Hope this helps.
