“Can you use the cast features from a PC that has a wired LAN connection? I'm seeing that you can use your PC if you are using the wireless internet connection on your PC. Does it work with an old "wired" PC with a network cable going from your router to your PC?”

yes, you can use a wired pc. the connection is actually more stable this way

You will need to use the chrome browser to accomplish this. Setup of the chromecast still requires wireless (even a cell phone connected to home wireless works)
