• No you do not. I have one SmartTV and one not so smart TV. Each has the new Chromecast. No problem. I use the Chromecast more than I use the SmartTV features. If you need more information, you can call Google Chromecast customer service. The Google Chromecast Customer Service phone numbers for various countries are available here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6025971?hl=en I have used them in the past and Google Chromecast Customer Service is excellent.

• No. All you need to use a chromecast is an HDMI port on your current TV and wifi at your home. The chromecast basically turns any TV into a smart TV.
