From what I gathered, Chromecast works on Wi-Fi, so in short it might not work using your phones data. However, if you switch your home Wi-Fi off, use your phone as a mobile hotspot (if your plan allows), then set the Chromecast using your mobile hotspot, you should be able to do what you want, theoretically at least.

I went ahead and connected the Chromecast and binged watched Nexflix (season 2, The Originals, 22 episodes) and although it used some of my monthly data allowance, it did not drain at the rate it was using data. Before it would take about two HD movies to use up allowance. Not sure they made Chromecast to help with Apple users, but anyway works great. Purchased iphone to HDMI converter to connect my iphone directly to TV. Will see how that works for direct iphone data usage. Thanks to all that answered.

Please try again later.There are a few janky workarounds for doing this, but honestly a much easier way to accomplish this is to use the A/V adapter to output the video directly from your Netflix app on your iPhone. The issue is that the Chromecast really was not designed to support direct streaming Miracast style, without the need for an external network. Which is a shame, because the device really fails if you don't have a solid home broadband connection.

Most phone carrier companies limit how much hot spot you can use. If you want to mirror your iPhone , the Apple TV is an answer. It's built to do that.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can employ mirroring with an iPhone or Android Device, but the resolution will be a zoomed-in version of your phone in portrait view. As for mobile hotspot setup: setup with iPhone as a hotspot is not going to work. The phone, during setup connects to your Chromecast's network, then goes back to it's preferred wifi network. The handoff doesn't work for mobile hotspots on the device you use as setup. So, you'll need a second device that connects to your phone's hotspot to setup the Chromecast.

On iPhone ( from what we found trying to use my roommates iPhone) Chromecast compatibility depends on if the application you are watching on has a cast screen option. On Android you can cast your screen at any point using the Chromecast app. Meaning you can cast and anything on your phone's screen will show on your TV.
