Yes you need one for each TV, it is a direct connection to the HDMI port on the TV. You can/could simply unplug from one and move it to another and then back again...

You can move the device around the house. I used to move the device from the bedroom to the living room. If you have more than one device, you can connect each device to a tv and provide a name for each. I actually have 2 now since I found myself using them it frequently. The good thing is, Most TVs now have built-in features that no longer require the chromecast.
