• Yes. As long as your device or computer (laptop or desktop) are logged into the same WIFI network as the Chromecast, and you are using the Chrome browser with the Chromecast extension installed, you will be able to send Youtube videos and other Chromecast connected content from those devices to the television where the Chromecast is plugged in.

• Sure does. I use the chrome browser to cast literally almost anything. It can mirror your tab completely. This means if you make a video full screen in your browser it will make it full screen on your Tv. It should also have support in apps like the windows 10 Netflix app

• Not sure on your question. "Work with a desktop?" Meaning, can you stream from a desktop? Yes. I think you have to use the Chrome browser and download the Chromecast extension.

• Yes, you will have to install the Chromecast extension into Chrome. However, it needs an Android or iOS device to do the initial setup.

• You can Cast from the Chrome browser. I think you need a free downloadable extension to do it. Or it may already be built in, I don't recall. But yes it's possible.
