No, I don't think an upgrade will help with these problems. The newer version sometimes takes several attempts to connect. Problems turning off and audio and video don't always sync.

We recommend checking if there is a software update for your Chromecast which may help fix any firmware related issues. But the latest generation Chromecast has an updated firmware so it will perform better than the original Chromecast.
