“I have the Arlo cameras and there is a 3-4 second delay, for example the car is already in the garage or I only see the rear end pulling in the garage by the time the camera starts recording. Is there a lag with these cameras?”

I have used the nest indoor cameras for years. I just purchased the outdoor cameras. Nest has upgraded their recording software so it continually records any movement seen plus highlights when it recognizes what it thinks might a person (car, animal, pet, etc). I turned my indoor camera to the outside temporarily and I could scroll thru what it captured such as clouds moving, shade from trees moving, etc. When someone walked by my house it also captured it but highlighted it so you didn't have to scroll looking for it. I get alerted via email/text when it sees what it interprets as people so I can check it no matter if I'm home, out of state or country. I also like the fact that I can set each camera to turn on to a set schedule, on all the time or like on my internal cameras, whenever my cell phone or iPad have left my house with me. I love the nest products. I also have & love their thermostat & am looking into their smoke/C02 detectors. Now if they would come out with a doorbell camera.

For the internet connection there are two possibilities - either your network bandwidth is quite slow (I doubt that as these days higher bandwidth is quite normal) or your wireless connection is quite slow due to its proximity to your router distance, walls etc., I have Nest camera and it has as well delay but may be not a 3secs. Problem with Nest cameras is monthly subscription for storing videos (that could rip off after a while).

I typically get almost instant notifications, but sometimes there is a 1-3 second delay. However, your video is recording using Nest Aware if you have the service so you can rewind and review the video to see the activity after the fact.
