The -4 degree rating for the Nest Cam Outdoor is for the operating temperature of the Nest Cam and not the ambient temperature outside. Since the Nest Cam Outdoor is designed to be on and streaming 24/7 and has a built in heat sync. The operating temperature is expected to remain above the outdoor temperature in the winter.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Well, we had temps last winter around -12F and the cameras worked and did not have any issues whatsoever. It was only that temp for maybe 2 days and then it warmed up to about 5-25F for the next couple weeks without any issues but the highs would be in the late 30s to early 40s.. This was the coldest winter we have had in years and the cams worked great and continue to do so. I can’t say if the temperature remains below -4 for weeks they would continue to work but I believe if you purchase a “glove” which is sold on BestBuy.com along with competitors websites, it will help keep the camera a tab bit warmer and more discreet too.
