The audio is great. On a quiet day you can hear footsteps as people walk down the road.

While the audio quality is much better than I expected, there is a delay in the transmission that can get cumbersome in a two way conversation. But for monitoring purposes, it works well. The distance the microphone monitors accurately will depend on other ambient noise. Our camera monitors the back yard of a mountain cabin. It's located on a second level deck rail. The audio picks up the sounds of crickets and other insects at night, wild turkey flock noises as they work their way through the yard, and the sounds of target practice from neighbors a few ridges away. It alerted the other day when the pest control technician was quietly working around the perimeter of the house. I was pleasantly surprised with the range and quality of both the audio and the video.

You won't want to listen to music through this thing for example. Or make movies with it. Yes the audio is stored in the same fashion as the video
