“Will this work as simply just a stand alone thermometer I can use to monitor the temperature in one room of my house, or is a Nest thermostat required? Also, does it work with Amazon Alexa?”

I think you need the Nest because they link and talk to each other. Alexa doesn't live in my household but Nest does work with Google Assistant.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Nest thermostat communicates through WiFi. The sensors, however, communicate directly with the thermostat. You need a Nest thermostat for it to work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It will work with Alexa when you have the nest thermostat. Using it as a stand alone sensor without a thermostat I'm not sure I don't think it would work. It connects to the nest thermostat during set up.
