“Does the device record a maximum of 3 hours for free or does the device only save the footage for up to 3 hours? If the later is true would seem less useful while sleeping for 8 hours.”

Nest Doorbell (battery) come with 3 hours of event video history. 24/7 video history is not available for the Nest Doorbell (battery), even with optional wired installation. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Nest Doorbell Battery only records motion events. And will only save the footage for your viewing for 3 hours. If you don't view it within the 3 hour window of the recording, you will no longer have access to it. I've used it without a subscription for a few months, so obviously miss any recording that happens in the middle of the night.
