Please try again later.After much research, most answers point to "No, you do not need to use a diode when installing a Google Nest Doorbell, because the doorbell itself handles the function of a diode." However, I can't confirm this because my current indoor electronic chime does not work with or without the diode. The story goes, I didn't read the instructions when installing my Google Nest Doorbell. I originally had a mechanical switch with my doorbell with a diode in between. Then I switched out for a Ring Doorbell and that one required a diode. Probably installed it wrong, but it may or may not have worked as I don't pay attention. Then I installed my Google Nest Doorbell without the diode, it didn't work. Not knowing that you are suppose to use your google home app to turn on the electronic indoor chime, I installed the diode anyways and it worked once. Now it doesn't. I took off the diode and tried to configure the chime through the app. No luck. I may have long termed fried it or something. My advice is, don't install the diode. Configure the chime through Google Home app first. If it doesn't work, then try whatever that's safe.

Please try again later.The compatibility checker said my electronic chime and transformer are compatible, but the video instructions for a wired installation of the Nest Doorbell (battery) doesn't make mention of installing a diode (or not), if one comes with the chime. At any rate, I performed the installation without it and adjusted the "length of ring" setting to 6 seconds, which is nearly long enough to play through the melody, though it loses power and cuts off at the end. Any longer setting results in the chime beginning to repeat before it gets cut off which I find less desirable.

Everything that you’ll need to get started are included in the box. While the Nest doorbell can replace most wired doorbells, there are some cases where the doorbell system either doesn’t give enough power or gives too much power. You should check if your current doorbell can be replaced by the Nest doorbell. Please try again later.The max 10second setting in the app wouldn’t play my Christmas chime all the way through and some other chimes didn’t work great when I followed the instructions exactly. So, I put the diode on the back doorbell and set the chime length in the app settings to one second. Is it right? Well, who knows, but it works. Hope this helps.
