No need to add a new line at least not when we purchased it a few weeks ago. Got an instant discount through best buy and then equal bill credits from Verizon. If you pay it off early though you do not get credit for the amount of bill credit you would have had, the price is then what your bill says you have left.

Verizon will show a higher monthly rate than the $18.74, but there is a $12.50 credit added monthly as an offset, I am paying a little more than the 18.74, I think it is around $18.93.
