What’s the purpose of the activation? null

The purpose of activation is to walk out with service already in the phone from the carriers best buy offers (TMobile, ATT, Verizon) It's just simply so you don't have to do it. You can also buy the phone without activation, typically for $50 more, which is in most cases the MSRP. This option is for people who already have service and just need a new phone.
